Few of the Attractions of Bangalore
Lalbagh Botanical Park
Lal Bagh sprawls over an area of 240 acres of land with colourful flower beds. The garden is a result of attempts made by Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan who imported a great variety of trees and plants from across seas. You can find a great variety of tropical and sub tropical plants, trees and herbs that are abundant in their natural beauty. Lal Bagh is among one of the most beautiful gardens in India. An intricate water system of 17th century is used to irrigate the plants is observed within the garden.
It also has a magnificent glass house built in 1840, on the lines of London's Crystal Palace. With marvellous collection of flowers, the Crystal Palace looks very vibrant. Every year during the Independence day Flower show is been arranged.
Ulsoor Lake
Lakes (or “tanks”) are other beauty spots of Bangalore and are man made ones constructed in 16th century through bunds as no close by rivers exists. Presently, only 17 remain, considering the healthy and good ones, out of the previous 51 lakes. The remaining lakes have been encroached and converted into colonies etc. as part of Urban Development. These lakes have fresh water and have a varied range of fauna and flora. Some of the notable lakes are The Ulsoor Lake (near MG Road at Halasuru), Madiwala Lake (among the largest lakes), the Sankey Tank (recently renovated); Hebbal Lake, Lalbagh Lake (at Lalbagh garden), Agara Lake, Puttenahalli Lake, Jarganhalli Lake, Kamakshipalya Lake, Vengaihnakere and Nagavara Lake. These lakes also have boating, parks, playgrounds, fountains and jogging area and some are famous grounds for Ganesh Charturthi immersion.
Cubbon Park
The glorious Cubbon Park spreads over an area of about over 300 acres and houses various attractions for tourists, as well as the people of Bangalore, such as the rose garden, the Memorial Hall located at the centre of the park that is dedicated to Aeshadri Aiyar, a Jawahar Bal Bhavan, a Children's Park and a Doll Museum. The Chief Engineer of Mysore, Sir Richard Sankey, laid the foundation for the park in 1864 and it was named after Sir Mark Cubbon, the longest serving commissioner of Bangalore.
Vidhana Soudha
A building to see and marvel is the Vidhana Soudha, considered to be among the most imposing building of India as a whole. It is a mixture of modern and neo-Dravidian architectural style and has been constructed using both granite and present materials like steel, cement, glass etc. The architecture is breathtaking as it consists of wonderfully carved pillars, bases, pediments, cornices, arches etc. The best part is the huge and wide grand stairs of 45 steps which lies at its front. They lead directly to the entrance of the first floor towards an Assembly Chamber.
